Scott Allan had hoped to get his career back on track after swapping Celtic for Scottish Premiership rivals Dundee.

There’s little doubt that Scott Allan needed to secure a move away from Celtic this summer. However, a redemptive loan spell at Dundee has not gone to plan so far with the 25-year-old’s reputation hardly helped by a string of below-par performances.

Allan was hooked after just 38 minutes in last week’s 4-1 defeat at Rangers. Dundee boss Neil McCann insisted that this was due to a hamstring injury but the Evening Times report that the manager was left infuriated by the midfielder’s ineffective display.

And it is maybe no coincidence that the former West Brom youngster was dropped to the bench as Dundee finally secured their first victory of the season with a thrilling 3-2 win against St Johnstone at the weekend.

The fact that McCann’s side got three points on the board without the Celtic loanee in their starting XI does not bode well for his chances of restoring his reputation away from the glare of Parkhead.

In fact, his loan spell at Dundee is shaping up to be almost as ineffective as his ten game stint at English Championship side Rotherham United last season. His last appearance for the struggling Millers came in January after Alan Stubbs, his manager at former club Hibernian, accused him of lacking commitment, as reported by The Record.

Therefore, there’s a real sense of ‘what now’ when discussing the future of Allan. He was one of Scotland’s most highly-rated talents when joining Celtic from Hibs in 2015 but, after managing just 17 games for The Hoops, it appears that his future lies elsewhere.

“I really like what I’ve seen of him,” Rodgers stated at the start of last season, as reported by the Daily Record.

On current form, however, Rodgers is unlikely to be thinking about including Allan in his future plans.
