Scotland star John McGinn was one of four players to return to training ahead of the World Cup qualifier with Moldova tomorrow night and hopes he can get back in amongst the goals for Steve Clarke’s side.
McGinn hit six international goals during 2019 as he hit a purple patch for club and country and the Aston Villa dynamo wants to have another “flurry” of goals for the national team.
After the disappointment of the 2-0 defeat by Denmark earlier this week, Scotland’s World Cup qualification hopes are already hanging by a thread but McGinn insists
“We didn’t create enough chances the other night, but we were up against the top seed,” he said.
“Tomorrow night, we will get chances and it’s up to me and the strikers who are in good form for their clubs. We are more than capable of getting those goals and hopefully I can have another flurry.
“In games we expect to win at home recently, we’ve dealt with it pretty well. We’ve scored early which is important.
“They’re no mugs and they’ll relish the atmosphere at Hampden, so it’s up to us to get an early goal and show the supporters what we can do. If it does take to the 85th minute to get the goal then the three points is all that matters.”
Scotland have also been boosted by the return to training of Nathan Patterson, Stephen O’Donnell and Kevin Nisbet ahead of the second game in their triple-header.
Three of the four are likely to come into Clarke’s starting XI tomorrow night and McGinn could be a good tip to get on the scoresheet.
