Celtic are reportedly closing in on Marvin Compper.

According to The Express, Celtic are nearing a deal for RB Leipzig defender Marvin Compper ahead of the January transfer window.
The Bhoys have continued to impress domestically under Brendan Rodgers this season, but their defensive showings in Europe have left a lot to be desired.
Fans have been desperate for Rodgers to add another centre back to his squad, with Erik Sviatchenko something of a forgotten man and more depth needed to compete with Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata.

Now, The Express report that Celtic are pressing ahead with a deal to sign RB Leipzig’s experienced defender Marvin Compper in January, adding a veteran presence to the back four.
It’s claimed that Leipzig want Compper to become a coach with the club when his playing days are over, but are happy for the 32-year-old to move on in January and seek more playing time elsewhere.
The report also notes that another German side is interested in signing Compper, but a move to Scotland is appealing to the defender, meaning the Bhoys are expecting to land Rodgers’ top target in January.

The German centre back came up through the ranks with Borussia Monchengladbach, before moving on to Hoffenheim and Fiorentina, then joining Leipzig in 2014.
Whilst Compper has been a key part of Leipzig’s rise in recent years, he has played just three times this season and started only once, meaning a move away looks inevitable – and joining Celtic appears to be getting closer, though having played in Europe for Leipzig this season, he will be cup-tied for the Europa League.
