Few visiting fanbases have adopted a host city and its teams quite as quickly as Scotland’s have during the World Cup.
Over the past two weeks, the Tartan Army has sung its way across the United States.
Their stop at the Marlins on Monday produced the expected bagpipes and beer, plus the kind of noise loanDepot Park rarely hears — and before long, a brand new chant aimed at one of the home team’s stars.
The target this time was Marlins outfielder Kyle Stowers, a player most of them had surely never heard of before their trip across the pond.
A new song for Super Kyle Stowers
In a clip posted to X, Scotland fans could be heard belting out a fresh number in Stowers’ honor: “We’ve got Stowers, super Kyle Stowers.”
It was a fitting choice. Stowers is one of the few genuine stars in a young Marlins side, an outfielder who made his first All-Star team in 2025 after a breakout season, even if his 2026 has been disrupted by a hamstring injury.
He played his part on Monday too, driving in a run with a double, though it was not enough to stop the Marlins slipping to a 4-3 defeat against the Texas Rangers.
The warmth has not gone unnoticed by American sports fans. Even Barstool founder Dave Portnoy has admitted the scenes are something US fans cannot replicate.
Stowers is unlikely to forget his cameo as a Tartan Army hero. Whether the chant outlives the World Cup is another question entirely.
