Scotland’s return to the World Cup has already sent excitement through the Tartan Army, with the national team back on the biggest stage for the first time since 1998.

It is a huge few weeks for Steve Clarke’s side, who face Haiti, Morocco and Brazil in Group C, and supporters are preparing for a tournament they have waited 28 years to experience again.

To mark the occasion, Vault City Brewing in Edinburgh is leaning into one of Scotland’s most famous claims to fame, its red-headed population, by offering free beer to fans with natural or dyed ginger hair this weekend as the countdown to kick-off begins. It is simple, silly and very Scottish indeed too.

Scotland fans can claim free beer before World Cup opener

According to the Daily Record’s brewery report, Vault City Brewing is giving away a free half-pint of Fiery Ginger Iron Brew Sour Beer to adult football fans with red hair.

Supporters can claim the free beer at The Wee Vault in Edinburgh, as well as Blue Monk and The Volley in London.

The offer runs from June 12th to June 14th and artificial or dyed hair counts, so fans do not need to be natural redheads to get involved. Available while stocks last, and customers must be 18 or over.

A spokesperson from Vault City Brewing told Sky Sports that the idea was all about enjoying Scotland’s long-awaited return.

“It’s just a bit of a laugh, you know, it’s just to kind of celebrate us getting in, it’s been 28 years, so it’s really exciting.”

Scotland open their Group C campaign against Haiti on Saturday (3am Sunday morning in the UK). The first game already feels huge, because it’s a chance for Clarke’s side to put early points on the board.

Morocco will bring the pedigree of a recent World Cup semi-finalist, while Brazil remain the headline act in the group. That makes the Haiti fixture a massive night for a squad that badly needs to improve on recent major tournament performances.

For fans in Edinburgh and London this weekend, though, the focus can start with something a little lighter. Scotland are back at the World Cup, and Vault City is offering redheads a free beer to help mark the moment.
