McKay was part of Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers side that were denied the treble by Hibernian.
Scotland coach Mark McGhee has insisted that Barrie McKay has being training well with the national team despite the recent disappointment that came from Rangers’ Scottish Cup final defeat, The Scottish Sun reports.
The 21-year-old played the full game at Hampden Park but was unable to prevent the Light Blues falling to a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Hibernian that was made worse by a pitch invasion following the game.
But McGhee has dismissed any suggestion that the winger has been affected by the events that saw Mark Warburton’s men denied a treble.
“Barrie doesn’t seem too down. He seems upbeat. I never lost a cup final so I don’t know that feeling but I imagine it would be difficult,” he told The Scottish Sun.
“However, the boy doesn’t seem to be showing any sign of that.”
While the Gers squad would undoubtedly have been left hugely disappointed by the dramatic defeat that saw Hibs bag the winner in stoppage-time, McKay’s time with Scotland will surely help him remember how great a season it has been at Ibrox.
The youngster has returned to the first-team fold under Warburton, and has helped the side secure promotion to the Scottish Premiership.
And his form has now caught the eye of Gordon Strachan, so he will be hoping to completely banish any painful memories from the cup final by taking any opportunity that comes his way for the national team in the same way that he has taken his chance at Rangers this past season.
