Everton youngster Hornby scored a hat-trick on Thursday night.
Scotland Under-21 manager Scot Gemmill has been quoted by the Daily Record as saying Everton striker Fraser Hornby will be attracting plenty of loan interest after his hat-trick on Thursday night.
The 18-year-old target man blew Andorra away with three excellent goals in their European Championship qualifier, as Scotland won 3-0 at Tynecastle.
Hornby opened the scoring by sending the Andorra goalkeeper the wrong way with a penalty, before heading home a Billy Gilmour cross. He notched his third in the final five minutes, after excellent work from Chris Cadden.
Gemmill watched on from the sidelines as Hornby took the bull by the horns and revived Scotland’s chances of qualifying from Group 4 and the Scotland Under-21 boss predicted plenty of clubs to become interested in Hornby.
“He’s got that physicality which is important but Fraser is not just about that. It’s about intelligence, a willingness to do the work and the talent as well. In football today you need the full package but he is definitely on schedule,” Gemmill said.
“I’m thrilled he’s come home to play in Scotland in an important qualification match and done so well. I’m sure clubs are queuing up to take him on loan now.”
Scotland and Hornby must finish at least second in the group if they are to qualify for the 2019 competition, hosted by Italy.
They currently sit in third, one point behind the Netherlands with three games left. Of the nine groups, the top team qualify while only four second-best sides go into two play-offs, meaning 11 sides will join hosts Italy for next summer’s tournament.
Hornby, meanwhile, has decided to remain at Everton and continue developing in the Toffees’ Under-23 side under David Unsworth, but a January loan could be tempting for Hornby.
