Andre Schurrle has a chance to thrive in the absence of Eden Hazard.
When Eden Hazard signalled that he was going to have to come off against PSG earlier this week, the hearts of plenty of Chelsea supporters would have sunk.
Andre Schurrle was prepped, fired up by Mourinho and came on to do a superb job as he scored to help the Blues through to the last four where they await the draw from UEFA tomorrow.
Schurrle has been in and out of the side for most of the season, making 13 appearances as a sub and only hitting a good patch of form over the last few weeks.
Hazard’s injury is expected to keep the Belgian out of action for the next three weeks which gives the German a chance to make himself priceless to Mourinho’s current side.
He stands a great chance of starting against Swansea this weekend and if he plays well, he should keep his place over the next couple of weeks heading into the mega Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
He’s also likely to feature in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final where the Blues could face Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid or the reigning champions Bayern Munich.
He’s been competitive in key attacking areas in the Premier League this season, which is noteworthy considering he’s had far less game time than some of his teammates.
| Player | Club | Pos | Goals | Ontarget Scoring Att | Accurate Pass | Apps | Mins |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eden Hazard | Chelsea | FW | 14 | 31 | 1,209 | 33 | 2,761 |
| Samuel Eto’o | Chelsea | FW | 8 | 23 | 213 | 19 | 1,187 |
| Oscar | Chelsea | MF | 8 | 20 | 908 | 30 | 1,949 |
| André Schürrle | Chelsea | FW | 7 | 12 | 337 | 25 | 1,066 |
| Frank Lampard | Chelsea | MF | 6 | 24 | 806 | 24 | 1,567 |
The massive advantage that Schurrle has is that he’s a very versatile player and if he plays out of his skin over the next three weeks, he won’t be replaced when Eden Hazard comes back into the team.
He stands a good chance of playing alongside Hazard as he has done recently, starting on the right with the world class Belgian taking his normal position over on the left.
