The ex Manchester United man believes Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne are the three best players in the Premier League.

Ahead of this weekend’s Manchester derby, former United midfielder Paul Scholes has named three City players as the best players in the Premier League.

In the same week the Red Devils’ legend has came out and openly criticised the Premier League, stating he finds more enjoyment from watching non-league football, he has now said the quality of players is on a level below other countries such as Spain – though there are a few exceptions.

“Other than Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva, we don’t have the best players. All the best players are in other countries,” Scholes told The Sun.

“There needs to be a real step up in quality in England. The best players are in Spain, or at Bayern Munich and Juventus.

“We’re linked with big players – Gareth Bale is a top player – but we don’t get them now. Not anymore.

“You never see a Lionel Messi coming over here, you never see a Neymar in the Premier League.”

As a former player for a Manchester United side that spent around £150m on new arrivals this summer including breaking the world transfer record to re-sign Paul Pogba – Scholes’ words may be difficult to take for some.

Fortunately for for United fans, Aguero, who has bagged eight goals in Manchester derbies, will serve the first of his three match ban meaning youngster Kelechi Iheanacho will be the preferred choice up front.

However, Silva and De Bruyne are both likely to start in the City midfield as both sides look to keep their perfect start to the Premier League season intact.
