Paul Scholes has told The Final Word that Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin was “almost unplayable” against Manchester City on Sunday – amid reports Manchester United and Tottenham want to sign the Frenchman.

Saint-Maximin, 25, laid on two assists for Newcastle as Eddie Howe’s side defied the odds to secure a point against Manchester City. In an enthralling 3-3 draw with Pep Guardiola’s men, Saint-Maximin was the star of the show.

He got assists for Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson, as Newcastle quickly overturned Ilkay Gundogan’s opener. Manchester City came back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3, but it was an excellent point for the Toon – and well deserved.

Reports this week claim Manchester United want to sign the £93,000-a-week wide man. Earlier this summer, reports also say that Tottenham and Chelsea have shown interest. Scholes gave his verdict, saying Saint-Maximin was superb.

“No [I have not seen him play better]. He has shown spells he is capable. Great ability, can go either way. I can imagine he can be frustrating to play with, but the lad has everything. Technically, speed, he was almost unplayable on Sunday.”

What a performance he gave for Newcastle, on the biggest stage against the Premier League champions. Even coming up against one of the best right-sided defenders in world football in Kyle Walker, he was in stunning form.

He deserved a goal, but he did the next best thing – laying on two goals for his teammates. Newcastle look a real force this season. If they are going to go on and qualify for Europe, Saint-Maximin will be absolutely crucial to that.

Ben Foster claims Saint-Maximin could be worth a whopping £100million following his display. Judging by this outing, and Newcastle’s cash-rich status, it might prove to be worth such a fee to tempt Newcastle into cashing in.
