Paul Scholes has claimed that Declan Rice is turning into a ‘complete player’ for West Ham, as he told Premier League Productions (24/10/21 at 1:55 pm).

West Ham recorded a 1-0 win over Spurs on Sunday at the London Stadium, with Scholes lauding Rice before the game and then him going on to deliver.

It was a strong display from the Irons, more so from a defensive standpoint, as both teams’ European games in midweek were laid bare out on that pitch, in regards to how they both performed.

Someone like Rice is just going from strength to strength and he will claim that he is possibly one of the best defensive-minded midfielders in the country – although, he’s not just showing his defensive qualities now either.

Scholes compared the Englishman to Premier League and Anfield legend Steven Gerrard and shared how he is now adding that ability to carry the ball into his game.

“I think he has been right up there for the last year or so,” said Scholes. “Again, he is a player who plays the position brilliantly. He reads play. He senses danger. You see him intercepting all the time.

“He’s not just got that to his game. He has also got this side to it (driving forward). He has got a bit of Steven Gerrard about him. He has really added that drive and that way of playing to create chances for his team.

“I did think, at one point, he would be a centre-back. But I think he is now turning into a complete midfield player.”

What will please David Moyes the most is that they have won a game after a European game in midweek.

On two occasions this season, they have suffered stoppage-time defeats after playing on a Thursday and now they have put three points on the board.

Whilst someone like Michail Antonio, who scored the winner today, didn’t start against Genk, it was still a strong side from Moyes that played in the Europa League.

Compare that to Tottenham, who made 11 changes and left their star players at home, in order to prepare for this match.
