Would Everton’s Ross Barkley or Max Meyer of Schalke be the best option for Tottenham in the transfer market?
Tottenham Hotspur are still yet to make any new signings this summer, although started their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 victory at newly promoted Newcastle United in any case.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino is still keen to add some new faces to his squad, though, with midfield seeming to be a key area targeted for improvement.

Ross Barkley has been heavily linked with a switch from Everton, with talkSPORT one of the latest reporting on the move, while the Mirror says Spurs are still in for Schalke’s Max Meyer.
But who would be the best for the North London club?
Ross Barkley
Apparently the 23-year-old will take a pay cut to join Tottenham and accept a £70,000-a-week contract despite turning down £100,000-a-week with the Toffees.
According to the Telegraph, Spurs won’t pay more than £25m for a player who has entered the last year of his current deal at Goodison Park but for whom the Merseysiders still want £50m.
There remain question marks over whether Barkley would even fit into Pochettino’s system, however, although being young, English and technically gifted has certainly worked well for players at the club in recent times.
Schalke’s midfielder Max Meyer (R) and Ajax’s Dutch Joel Veltman vie for the ball.
Max Meyer
Two years younger than Barkley, like his English counterpart the 21-year-old has also has less than 12 months to run on his contract at the Veltins-Arena.
Meyer is also open to a move to the Premier League, although the Mirror claims that Liverpool are also considering the Germany international as a replacement for Barcelona target Philippe Coutinho.
Due to the youngster’s stance, it is reported by football.london that £15m could be enough to land the German, making him arguably a far better choice than Barkley whose valuation may well be inflated because of his nationality alone.
