Celtic could be vulnerable in the centre of defence at Ibrox
Celtic fans are fearing the worst after Christopher Jullien was stretchered off during today’s 3-0 win over Dundee United.
There was much for Neil Lennon’s men to be enthusiastic about in a comfortable victory, with Ismaila Soro, David Turnbull and Odsonne Edouard all getting on the scoresheet.
While the champions look impressive going forward, there are serious concerns about their vulnerability at the back.
Jullien collided with the post early in second half, after racing to clear a Marc McNulty effort off the line. The Frenchman was left in agony, and left the field on a stretcher to be replaced by Nir Bitton.
That change seemed to destabilise the Celtic defence, and with a lack of cohesion in that department a recurring theme throughout this difficult campaign for Lennon’s side, fans are concerned about how they will cope with the Rangers frontline at Ibrox on Saturday.
Asked on BBC Radio Scotland how serious the injury was, Lennon said: “We don’t know yet. It looks pretty painful. He was in a lot of pain coming off.
“There’s a lot of swelling. Hopefully that will settle in the next couple of days, but it’s too early to say.”
Bitton was preferred to Shane Duffy when it became clear that Jullien had to come off, but neither option is ideal if the reaction of these fans is anything to go by.
The gap at the top remains 16 points going into the derby, with Rangers beating St Mirren 2-0 in Paisley.
