
Some debates are timeless. Coke or Pepsi? Playstation or Xbox? Messi or Ronaldo? But one debate that Aston Villa fans now think is settled is Patrick Bamford or Ollie Watkins.
There was plenty of discussion this time last week when Watkins was chosen over Bamford in the England squad, and you can imagine what both sets of supporters were saying.
Villa fans thought the decision was justified, while Leeds fans were furious about their star man being snubbed, and while both sets of supporters had a point, it seems as though the Villa fanbase now believe they were on the right side of the debate.
Watkins made his England debut off the bench on Thursday evening, and it didn’t take him long to make a mark. Scoring soon after entering proceedings, with a nicely taken right-footed drive.
Yes, it was only against San Marino, but an international goal is an international goal, and Villa fans were quick to claim that this should spell the end of any debate about Bamford and Watkins.
Leeds fans may disagree, but it has to be said that Watkins was impressive on his Three Lions debut, and he took his goal quite brilliantly.
