Speaking to Amazon, Phil Foden has been asked to describe what it’s like to play at Elland Road against Leeds United.

Foden has now had the pleasure of playing at a packed-out Elland Road after covid forced the stadium to be empty for Manchester City’s trip to West Yorkshire back in 2020/21, and it’s fair to say that City didn’t get the warmest of receptions last season.

The Whites were beaten 4-0 on the day, while players were pelted with paper during the game after the club handed out cards for a pre-match display.

Foden found the atmosphere at Leeds daunting to say the least, stating that it was a scary experience.

However, despite being frightened of the Leeds fans, Foden says that he enjoyed the occasion, stating that atmospheres like that bring a lot to the Premier League.

What’s been said?

Foden spoke about Leeds fans and Elland Road.

“It can be scary, definitely, they feel so on top of you, always shouting and throwing paper at me last time, but I enjoy those occasions playing against big teams like that and the atmosphere they create. It’s good for us and it’s good for the Premier League to have atmospheres like this,” Foden said.

Unlike anything else

Foden has played in some of the biggest games in front of some of Europe’s most raucous fanbases, but it has to be said that a trip to Elland Road is unlike anything else.

City headed to LS11 at the worst possible time as well. Marcelo Bielsa had just been sacked, the club was struggling and it was an evening game.

That game last season was always going to be rowdy, and City winning 4-0 certainly didn’t help matters.

Leeds fans can be intimidating at the best of times, but City’s trip to Elland Road last season was a notoriously fiery atmosphere.
