Harry Redknapp has backed the frightening Gareth Bale to pick up where he left off at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Welsh wizard has re-signed for Spurs on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.
Bale is 31 and there’s been suggestions that he may not be the same player who left Tottenham in a world-record £85 million departure back in 2013.
For one thing, he struggled to get into Zinedine Zidane’s first-team squad toward the end of last season and seemed to spend a lot of time on the golf course in Spain.
It was under Redknapp at Tottenham when Bale emerged as one of the world’s most electric attacking players.
And ahead of his potential second debut for the North Londoners today, the veteran manager is confident that his former player can still terrify Premier League defences.
He told The Sun: “Gareth is a naturally fit lad and looks after himself. And even if he has lost half a yard of pace, possibly even a yard, so what? He was that quick he’ll still be faster than 90 per cent of those he comes up against.
“There is so much of Gareth’s game that reminds me of Ronaldo. It’s scary how good he is.”
