Newcastle United are currently in a whole world of trouble.

Toon legend Alan Shearer lambasted the current state of Newcastle, when speaking exclusively to the Sun, suggesting that the club is flat and lifeless at the moment.

The Magpies currently sit in 15th spot in the Premier League table, just two points clear of the drop zone, and their performances recently have been quite frankly woeful.

Rafa Benitez always seems to set his teams up with the sole ambition of not losing the game.

There is a huge lack of flair, industry and most importantly belief amongst the Newcastle players, and the St James’ Park crowd are being given absolutely nothing to feed off of.

The current goings on at Newcastle must be hard to swallow for the club’s favourite son.

Shearer spoke exclusively to the Sun, and highlighted how things will only get worse on Tyneside, unless there is a takeover shortly:

BBC pundit Alan Shearer looks on before the FA Cup Second round match between Hartlepool United and Blyth Spartans at Victoria Park on December 5, 2014 in Hartlepool, England.

“Newcastle’s performance against Blackburn pretty much summed up what the club is at the moment — flat and lifeless. It is hard to remember such a flat and poor display and the Toon were fortunate to get a replay. There is so much negativity around but that comes from the very, very top. The life is being sucked out of the football club. And what’s clear is that the club is only going to get worse unless there is a takeover. That in itself is pretty scary.”

Things don’t get any easier for Newcastle, with games against Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham all to come in their next four Premier League outings.

And Rafa’s men will have to start picking up points sooner rather than later, otherwise relegation to the Championship will become a real possibility.
