Tottenham Hotspur need someone to step up in the absence of injured midfielder Moussa Dembele and Victor Wanyama needs to show he can be the solution.

As Moussa Dembele lay injured on the Molineux turf, no one realised that Spurs were about to lose their midfield powerhouse until the new year.
As reported by PhysioRoom.com, Dembele had suffered ligament damage to his right ankle and it will be January at the earliest before he is back in first-team action.
Spurs’ boss Mauricio Pochettino lines his team up in a 4-2-3-1 formation and Dembele is generally one of the two players at the base of the midfield.
Since Dembele’s injury, Pochettino has tried Christian Eriksen as one of the two holding midfielders. But he knows his strengths lie further up the pitch with his fantastic technique, vision and passing ability key to creating opportunities for Harry Kane.
Victor Wanyama’s Spurs career has been hampered by injury since his arrival from Southampton over two years ago. The 27-year-old Kenyan needs a consistent run of games to get back near the level of performance he was at with the Saints, prompting Pochettino to sign him in the first place.

With Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko flattering to deceive, Wanyama must put his stamp on this Spurs team between now and January.
With the hectic winter schedule approaching, it might just be the perfect chance for Wanyama to establish himself as a regular, possibly beside Harry Winks, anchoring the Spurs midfield.
If Wanyama can do that, he might just show Pochettino he is not only the immediate solution for covering Dembele’s injury layoff. With the Belgian international now 31, Pochettino will also be looking for someone to take over such a demanding role within his team for the long-term.
