Virgil van Dijk comments on Liverpool’s title hopes

Liverpool beat Fulham on Sunday to keep the pressure on Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

Liverpool’s number four Virgil van Dijk helped his side to another clean sheet at Anfield on Sunday. The Reds ran out 2-0 winners against Fulham to stay within touching distance of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

Despite an impressive start to the season, van Dijk told the official Liverpool website that ‘we still need to see’ if the Reds can challenge for the title.

[City] are the champions and the best team in the league but we will try everything to be as good as we can.” Van Dijk said.

“We don’t have to look at others, we want to look at the games we have and the next challenge we have as Liverpool is Watford away, which is going to be tough.

“The season is very long. [City] are not going to win every game 5-0 and are going to have tough games like everyone else.”

It was imperative that Liverpool bounced back with a win against Fulham after a very disappointing performance and result in the Champions League last week.

Jurgen Klopp had suggested that Liverpool were missing their mojo after the defeat in Belgrade. Thanks to the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri on Sunday, it may well be on its way back.

The problem for The Reds is that City never look to have lost their ‘mojo’. After a record-breaking Premier League points-haul last season, Pep Guardiola’s team still seem to be as hungry as ever and continue to raise the standard which others such as Liverpool must aspire to.

Credit must go to Klopp and his team after an amazing start to the season – their best ever start to any Premier League campaign. Liverpool and Van Dijk must now look to their German boss to usurp City at the top just like he did when leading Dortmund to their Bundesliga titles ahead of the mighty Bayern Munich.

There is a long and winding road ahead.
