A former journalist, Dassler Marques, has announced he is leaving journalism to work as a scout in Brazil for Liverpool.

In recent years, the Brazilian contingent at Liverpool has grown. What started back in the days of Lucas Leiva and Fabio Aurelio, continued with Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.

Of course, Coutinho is no longer at the club, but Firmino is one of the most important players in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side. Firmino has also played his part in recruiting Alisson Becker from AS Roma and Fabinho from AS Monaco.

Now you can add the name Dassler Marques to the list of Brazilian’s employed by the Merseyside club. In a rather surprising story reported in the Liverpool Echo, Marques tweeted “After learning, dreams and mostly friends made, I left UOL today. Time to fly out of journalism, learn new things, make other dreams and make new friends on a new team. I now work as a Scout (Observer) of Liverpool in Brazil and a. Latina.”

It seems Marques will be joining Liverpool’s worldwide scouting network and will be focused on identifying potential talents and targets for the Reds’ Sporting Director, Michael Edwards, to evaluate. Edwards has become something of a cult hero among Liverpool fans in recent years due to his dealings in the transfer market, on behalf of Klopp.

With Marques added to the scouting department and based in Brazil, it’s a clear sign Liverpool feel there is an abundance of talent still to be unearthed within the country’s domestic league.

One thing any new Liverpool signing from Brazil could be sure of is a warm, homely welcome. Firmino, Fabinho and Alisson are known for their sing-songs and family get-togethers, often with Spaniard Alberto Moreno coming along.

While this may seem like a trivial and mostly fun matter, it is sure to be an important factor for any Brazilian player when deciding where to go if he is being plucked from his home country at a young age.
