This summer Liverpool splashed out around £39million to sign Fabinho from Monaco. The defensive midfielder’s signing was kept impressively quiet before he was then announced, with the deal being concluded the night after Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

Fabinho’s attempts to integrate himself into life at Liverpool has been hampered by one obstacle, in particular. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the Brazilian discussed how the language barrier has been an issue early on.

“I’m feeling well at the club. I can communicate well with my team-mates, even though my English isn’t great. The language barrier is one of the issues so far,” Fabinho told the Liverpool Echo.

“I’m not totally settled just yet.

“I’m still adapting to here but I believe that I’m now used to the football style, especially when it comes to the intensity of the game which is really different from the league that I came from.”

Jurgen Klopp has been very patient with how he has introduced Fabinho to the Liverpool first-team. Similar to how Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was introduced to life at Anfield, Fabinho has been developing on the training pitch rather than in competitive fixtures. He didn’t get his first start until the Carabao Cup home defeat to Chelsea in late September.

Klopp’s trust and belief in Fabinho does appear to be growing, though. He has started Liverpool’s last three games in a row and also travelled with the squad to Serbia for today’s Champions League fixture with FK Crvena Zvezda.

The 25-year-old played very well in the 4-0 home win over the Serbian champions and will be hoping to get a chance to show some consistency to his game in Belgrade.

The defensive midfield position has been a problem area for Liverpool for many years now. If Fabinho can realise the potential he clearly has under Klopp, then the German manager will have solved another piece of the puzzle for The Reds, just like he did with the left-back role when acquiring Andy Robertson.
