Darren Moore gives brutally honest assessment of West Brom’s form

Leeds United travel to West Bromwich Albion next Saturday and the Baggies’ boss is not overly happy with his team’s current form.

Darren Moore’s West Brom team has now gone four games without a win, losing three of those fixtures.

WBA have slipped to seventh in the Championship as a result of their poor form. League leaders, Leeds United, are the next opponents for Moore’s team and he is not feeling too positive ahead of the clash, as reported in the Birmingham Mail.

Moore reminded reporters of the current first-team players his side is missing due to injury but acknowledged that those who make the step into the first team should be able to meet a certain standard at this level.

“Dwight Gayle’s a miss, Kieran Gibbs is a miss, Gareth Barry’s a miss,” Moore told the Birmingham Mail.

“But also we feel we’ve got a squad and a group of players that others should step in to perform.

“For whatever reason, that was lacking… yes, those are big players and key players, but we’ve got a group who have set standards in recent weeks and we didn’t get to those standards.”

West Brom face a tough task at home to Leeds United as the Yorkshire club are the success story of the Championship season so far. With only two defeats from their opening 16 league games, Marcelo Bielsa’s side are ahead of Norwich City on goal difference at the top of the table.

Leeds will be keen to go into the upcoming international break on top of the Championship so I would expect another super-human effort from Bielsa’s men at The Hawthorns.

Only two points separate the top five teams in the Championship and West Brom are just five points behind Leeds, even though they are down in seventh.

Darren Moore needs to show his players that the glass is actually half full and that they can go within two points of Bielsa’s Leeds by getting the win on Saturday. His comments are those of a dejected figure.

Moore must be careful not to let that gloom surround his squad as they will need to be brimming with confidence and self-belief before facing the league leaders at the weekend.
