David Seaman praises Tottenham’s progress under Pochettino

Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman gives his thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur progression under Pochettino.

Tottenham Hotspur and Mauricio Pochettino have been on the receiving end of more plaudits but this time from a somewhat unexpected source.

David Seaman spent 13 years between the sticks for Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal, but the former Gunner has been singing the praises of Mauricio Pochettino and his current Tottenham side.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Seaman was asked if he felt Spurs were still a long way away from competing for the top honours.

“No, they’re not miles away at all,” Seaman said. “They’re getting closer every season, for me.

“A lot of people are going on about how they’re not playing very well, but this is their best start to a Premier League season and they’ve still got a chance in the Champions League, although a very small chance.

“They are always progressing and they keep their players and get their best players to sign new, long-term contracts.

“For me, Tottenham are really progressing.”

Seaman’s comments come on the back of a great Spurs fightback victory over PSV in the Champions League on Tuesday night. That win keeps Tottenham in contention for qualification for the knockout stages of the tournament.

On the home front, Spurs are in fourth position, five points behind the attacking juggernaut that is Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. They are also into the quarter-finals of the League Cup where a mouth-watering tie with Arsenal awaits them at the Emirates Stadium.

Seaman’s comments should come as no surprise. Pochettino has shown that his Spurs team deserves their place among the Premier League’s top teams. They are still trying to take that next step and show that they belong in the later stages of the Champions League, too.

If Spurs can ward off any Pochettino and Harry Kane admirers (we’re looking at you, Real Madrid) then some much-wanted silverware may be just around the corner for Tottenham.
