Speaking on BT Sport (26/10/22 8:50PM), Rio Ferdinand has been discussing Darwin Nunez’s miss against Ajax.

The Uruguayan missed an absolute sitter against Ajax on Wednesday evening, hitting the post after a pitch-perfect pass from Roberto Firmino was flashed across goal for the South American to tap home.

Ferdinand was on in-studio pundit duty for BT on the night and upon reviewing the footage he couldn’t help but note how Nunez’s teammates were reacting to his miss.

Both Roberto Firmino and Andy Robertson had their hands on their heads immediately after the incident, and Ferdinand thinks that their reactions just about summed everything up.

Despair

Ferdinand and Peter Crouch discussed how the Liverpool players reacted to Nunez’s miss.

”I don’t think Firmino can understand how Liverpool aren’t 2-0 up. It’s a great move and Firmino’s pass is perfect, how Nunez misses that I don’t know,” Crouch said.

”Firmino man, his reaction is brilliant. Even Robertson’s reaction says it all, it was a beautiful team move,” Ferdinand added.

Didn’t matter

Firmino and Robertson were shocked by Nunez’s miss, but at the end of the day, this incident didn’t matter.

Indeed, Nunez would find the back of the net and bury the game in the second half before Harvey Elliott capped off a fine 3-0 win.

We can look back on Nunez’s miss as a great bit of movement that didn’t quite have the finish on the end of it, but if this sort of trend continues, Liverpool may have something to worry about.

Missing big chances is something that strikers, quite simply, can’t afford to do, and Nunez needs to finetune that area of his game.
