Jose Mourinho has told Football London that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane impressed him yesterday… but with his defending.
Kane scored the winner as Tottenham picked up a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion.
The England captain flicked home a cross from Matt Doherty late on, which sent Tottenham to the top of the table.
It was Kane’s 150th goal in the Premier League, as he reached yet another milestone.
But Mourinho was keen to put out what a good job Kane did in a defensive sense after the game yesterday.
“When you go to stats in relation to the strikers, I always say that the stats should be how many goals has a striker scored, and what he did for his team in the matches where he didn’t score,” Mourinho said.
“And many of the strikers that history will show an incredible number of goals that they score, plus zero.

“Harry Kane you have to say has this many goals, this many assists, this number of balls recovered, this number of duels won. This number of balls that he saved his team in a defensive set-piece. This is Harry Kane. It’s goals plus this and this and this and that.
“For me it’s not one more goal or one less goal, it’s about what he is as a player.”
Kane’s work-rate is actually something that goes unnoticed about him at times.
The Spurs striker is renowned as an elite finisher, but his willingness to work for his side and track back should actually receive more attention.
Kane is now one of the most in-form players in the Premier League, and if he keeps up his current standards, then he could be in for a remarkable season at Tottenham.
