Paul Pogba has had a mixed first season at Manchester United, held down by the weight of expectation upon him.

The central midfielder has also not been helped by inconsistency alongside him, with Jose Mourinho still trying to work out who his best partner is.

United are likely to spend in the summer to bring in a player to feature with Pogba in Mourinho’s first choice XI, but have some untested options at hand already to try out.

Here are three players who could save the club millions this summer if Mourinho dares give them the opportunity…

Daley Blind

Dutchman Daley Blind has been the ultimate utility player at Manchester United since signing, excelling at left-back and filling in adeptly at centre-back.

It is easy to forget that when he signed it was after an impressive season with Ajax in central midfield and World Cup with Holland in the same position.

Blind could argue that he deserves a run of time in the role alongside Pogba, and an opportunity to show he can be a long term replacement for Michael Carrick.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Academy breakthrough talent Timothy Fosu-Mensah is one of the most highly rated youngsters at United, and is on the fringes of the first team.

He has featured as a substitute this season mainly, and even got a brief chance to play in midfield with Pogba in the Europa League.

Fosu-Mensah has played mainly at full-back, but many believe central midfield is his best position, and Jose Mourinho should consider taking a closer look before spending.

Andreas Pereira

Brazilian youngster Andreas Pereira left on loan to play first team football this season, and he has accomplished that at La Liga side Granada.

Pereira has the flair and a good range of passing to suggest he can be a real asset for United, and wants to fight for a first team spot next season.

The best result for everybody is surely that he accomplishes his goal of becoming a first team regular at Old Trafford, and Mourinho should invest in making this happen.
