Robbie Savage has told BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606 programme on Sunday evening that he thinks Tottenham could finish as high as second in the Premier League this term – but Liverpool and Arsenal will miss out on a place in the top four.

Another topsy-turvy weekend of Premier League football saw Arsenal lose their first game of the season. Manchester United ran out 3-1 winners at Old Trafford – their fourth win in a row. It comes after United lost their first two matches.

Liverpool and Manchester City both failed to secure wins – drawing with Everton and Aston Villa. Chelsea had to rely on a controversial VAR decision to beat West Ham, while Tottenham remain unbeaten. They edged past Fulham 2-1.

At this early stage, Arsenal remain top – while Manchester City and Tottenham are in second and third. Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are in fifth, sixth and seventh. Savage has made an early prediction for his top four.

“Transfer window is closed, right now my top four is Man City, Spurs, Chelsea and Man Utd – no Arsenal, no Liverpool. They’ve transformed and Man Utd have a better squad than Liverpool,” Savage told 606.

Savage: Liverpool and Arsenal will miss out on top four, Spurs in second

It is almost impossible to predict at this stage, given the up-and-down nature of the Premier League. But Manchester City do look good to secure another Premier League title, even if the failed to beat Aston Villa. Thy remain unbeaten.

City have 14 points from six games and are not even playing at 80%, let alone 100%. Liverpool have injuries and that might see the gap between the top two, and the rest, reduce. Tottenham and Arsenal have hugely improved.

But to say Liverpool will miss out entirely is a big call. The Reds will surely kick into gear and still finish in the Champions League places. But all of the big-six clubs will have an argument to show why they will be in the top four.
