Michel Vorm could start for Tottenham against Manchester United on Saturday.

The stage is set for Tottenham Hotspur to finally go and silence all the critics by knocking Manchester United out of the FA Cup and edge closer to a trophy – but on a personal level, it is the perfect game for Michel Vorm.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper is set to see his contract expire in just over two months’ time, but he could be handed a last chance to show why he deserves to remain at Tottenham beyond the end of the season.

The 15-time Holland international signed a contract back in December 2016 that would keep him at Spurs until the summer of 2018, which the Daily Star claim is worth £22,000 a week. Chairman Daniel Levy is yet to offer him a new deal, suggesting that an exit is imminent.

He remains Hugo Lloris’ back-up in north London, but with the Frenchman suffering from a recent dip in form, Vorm could be given the chance to start in goal after featuring in every other FA Cup fixture this season.

Vorm has spoken out before on how he is content with remaining back-up goalkeeper at Spurs, despite only playing 10 times in all competitions this season while Paulo Gazzanigga remains third choice.

In Mauricio Pochettino’s fellow countryman Gazzanigga, Spurs do have an immediate replacement should Vorm leave at the end of his current deal. But there are doubts over whether the summer signing is actually good enough.

Pochettino should hand Vorm a start against United, in what would be a true test of his mettle. if he comes through unscathed, with a clean sheet, then surely a new deal should be put in front of Vorm.

But concede, and Spurs exit the competition with Vorm to blame, then Pochettino’s decision is made for him. It is the perfect stage for a make-or-break decision over the future of Vorm.
