Celtic may be able to sign Sardar Azmoun despite his Liverpool snub.

Celtic are keen to sign Iranian talent Sardar Azmoun according to the Scottish Sun.

Azmoun has been earmarked as a replacement for Moussa Dembele if the Scottish champions are unable to hold onto the forward.

The international star was linked with signing for Liverpool back in January but made clear he was not interested in a move.

Yet his reasons for snubbing Liverpool are clear and should actually give Celtic encouragement.

Azmoun, 22, stated that he only wanted to leave Rostov if he was guaranteed first team football.

Azmoun told the Qatar supreme committee for delivery and legacy website: “I did not feel the time to move was right.

“I would have ended up playing a few games and then spent a great deal of time on the bench as Liverpool were only looking to fill a void for a particular part of their season.”

If he signed for Celtic as a Dembele replacement, Azmoun would be brought in to play a prominent first team role.

The attacker is not as prolific as the popular Frenchman, netting 12 goals in 41 games this past season but would be hopeful of making a positive impact in Scotland.

At Celtic there will not be the competition Azmoun would have faced at Liverpool, and his explanation should really give Brendan Rodgers the green light, and convince him that he can lure him to Glasgow.
