Wolverhampton Wanderers were reportedly on the verge of bringing ‘Iranian Messi’ Sardar Azmoun to the Premier League from Rubin Kazan.

Sardar Azmoun has a new club after his deadline day move to Wolverhampton Wanderers fell through.
The Rubin Kazan striker, who has been rather ambitiously labelled Iran’s answer to Lionel Messi, was on the verge of moving to Molineux on the final day of the January transfer window.
According to Sky Sports, Wolves had agreed a loan fee of £1.7 million but the deal fell through at the eleventh hour.
Wolves wanted an option to sign Azmoun permanently in the summer for £11.5 million should he impress at Molineux. The complications arose, however, because Rubin wanted the deal to include an ‘obligation’ for a permanent transfer – regardless of how he gets on in English football.
But Azmoun did not have to wait long before he did get a big-money move. According to L’Equipe, the 24-year-old has now signed for Rubin’s Russian rivals Zenit St Petersburg for a fee of £10.5 million, inking a three-and-a-half year contract.

Wolves fans will be eager to see how Azmoun gets on at Zenit after he slipped through their grasp last month.
Fortunately for Nuno Espirito Santo, however, Raul Jimenez is in the form of his life right now and no one in the Black Country is talking about the ‘Iranian Messi’ after the Mexican inspired superb victories against West Ham and Everton.
