Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha could raid former club Santos Laguna.
General view outside Ibrox
Santos Laguna president Alejandro Irarragorri has told Mediotiempo that Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha is speaking to him about signing a player from Santos.
Rangers have been busy in the transfer market over the past week, landing defender Bruno Alves from Cagliari, Aberdeen midfielder Ryan Jack and Benfica winger Dalcio.
Carlos Pena in action for Mexico
Deals for Vitoria Setubal defender Fabio Cardoso, Chivas Guadalajara midfielder Carlos Pena and UNAM striker Eduardo Herrera are set to be completed too, which would take Rangers’ intake to six.
Manager Pedro Caixinha certainly needs new signings, and it seems that he still isn’t anywhere close to being finished in the transfer market.
The additions of Pena and Herrera see Caixinha use his knowledge of the Mexican market, having managed Herrera at Santos Laguna, and gone up against international midfielder Pena.

There could yet be more business done in Mexico, with Caixinha potentially looking to reunite with a player he managed at Santos Laguna before leaving the club in 2015.
Santos president Alejandro Irarragorri has revealed to Mediotiempo that he speaks to Caixinha regularly, and they are currently discussing a possible deal that would send a mystery Santos Laguna player to Ibrox.
Santos Laguna defender Jose Abella in action
“I talk a lot with Pedro (Caixinha), and he has reasons why he signs those two players (Herrera and Pena)…there is a Santos player that interests him, we are talking about it.”
“I think it’s wonderful that we can contribute to the internationalization of Mexican football. There could be three Mexicans playing in Scotland,” he added.
The most prominent link in this instance has been to right back Jose Abella, with AS recently claiming that the Gers are keen on signing him – and that would mean he arrives as direct competition for James Tavernier at right back.
