It seemed at one point that Santi Cazorla’s career was over. A terrible Achilles injury ruined his Arsenal career but the Spaniard overcame all the odds to perform at the highest level again.

Cazorla has been one of Villareal’s best players since his return from injury but he is coming towards the end of his career.

Now 35, the former Malaga man doesn’t have much time left on the football pitch. Mikel Arteta’s appointment as Arsenal boss brought about rumours of a potential return to the Emirates for the little Spaniard.

Cazorla himself fueled those rumours in May when he admitted that he wants to return to Arsenal in some capacity. (Vamos, via The Metro)

The Spaniard has opened up about his future once again, this time in an interview with Cadena Ser.

He said: “I have already made the decision, right now is not the time to say anything. I have an idea of what I want, but in due course I will say what I decide. Now is not the time because we have to be aware of competing.”

“I want to remain linked to football. As a coach, I could be, but I see myself more in a role as sports director”

Arsenal fans would love to see the little magician back at the Emirates as a part of Arteta’s coaching team. The Gunners have looked a lot better under Pep Guardiola’s former number two and Cazorla would certainly add value.

The Gunners have a number of young midfielders who could use Cazorla’s guidance to become top players. However, if he decides to become a sporting director, he will have to do a lot of work before he can displace Edu at Arsenal.
