Everton signed the Spaniard in a cut-price deal and he has already shown glimpses of his ability this summer.
In an inflated transfer market, signing a La Liga striker who averaged a goal every other game last season for just £5.3million (as reported by the Guardian) is almost impossible. But Everton pulled it off thanks to Sandro Ramirez’s ridiculously low release clause and they should reap the benefits for years to come.
The 22-year-old scored 16 goals in 31 matches for Malaga in his one and only campaign at the club, and on early pre-season evidence he is going to go down a storm at Goodison Park.
What seems clear from the outset is that Sandro is about as willing as they come when in terms of influencing the game, not just waiting for a rare chance to come his way but creating havoc in the opposition defence and allowing Everton’s other new attacking options Wayne Rooney and Davy Klaassen to benefit as a result.
A lively, enthusiastic player, Sandro would represent a great option off the Everton bench, making tired defences pay, but he is not going to want to play a bit-part role, even in the opening weeks of the campaign, and if he gets an early goal in the league there could be no stopping him.
Rooney’s age means he needs players like Sandro around him, and Everton’s new young forward can cause havoc, especially against weaker Premier League defences.
Expecting too much too soon of a young player moving to a new country would be foolish. However Sandro knows pressure having come through Barcelona’s ranks and his showings this summer prove he is the real deal and, dare we say it, a Goodison Park legend in the making.
