Everton are being strongly linked with a move for Dutch attacking midfielder Davy Klaassen. Sky Sports recently reported that Everton are in advanced talks with the Ajax player, whilst the Liverpool Echo claim that he will set them back around £25 million.

Now, a former Everton goalkeeper has shared his opinion on a potential deal. Sander Westerveld is better known for his two-year stint at Liverpool but also had a brief spell on loan at Everton in 2006.

The former Dutch international told the Dutch media this week that he was pleased to hear Everton were going after the player. He told Algemeen Dagblad:

“He has the right balance between physical strength and football intelligence.

“And, of course, English football perfectly fits in the profile of Klaassen. He has in recent years become the absolute leader of Ajax. Only now it is about whether he is going to make that extra step.

“But he has the mentality for it.”

Everton are very hopeful of signing the player, who is keen on the move to Goodison Park. The Toffees boss Ronald Koeman likes his workmanlike style of play, which he balances with a deadly final-third mentality.

With serious doubts persisting over the future of Ross Barkley the Dutchman is looking for a player who can take his place in the team and Klaasen has the ability to do just that.

Hopefully, if Klaasen does sign, he can have the impact Westerveld is predicting.
