The Tottenham Hotspur defender has been reckless at times this season.
Although they haven’t been especially vulnerable defensively recently, Tottenham Hotspur will still benefit hugely from the return to action of Toby Alderweireld.
The defender has been sidelined with a hamstring problem since November but is closing in on a return and should have an important part to play for Mauricio Pochettino’s team in the closing stages of the season.
Davinson Sanchez has been a regular in the Tottenham defence since his summer switch from Ajax and the 21-year-old has shown some encouraging signs, but there have also been some moments when he has been rather reckless.
Sanchez has a tendency to lose his discipline at times, and, while he has defended well for the most part, there are occasions when he looks rather vulnerable.
Although Tottenham have the option of reverting to a three-man defence, perhaps the best choice initially would be for Pochettino to continue deploying a back four, with Alderweireld coming back in alongside his compatriot Jan Vertonghen, while Sanchez should, temporarily, be dropped.
Sanchez can still be a major part of Tottenham’s future and can still feature in some games once Alderweireld returns, but being left out for some fixtures will give the Colombian time to assess his game and see where he can improve.
