Liverpool should look to partner Samuel Umtiti with Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool’s defence does not quite match up to their star studded attack but by signing Virgil van Dijk in January they took a big step forward.
This summer they must buy a top player to partner the Dutchman, to compete with Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez.
The perfect solution could be at Barcelona, with Frenchman Samuel Umtiti.
Umtiti has a £53 million release clause in his contract, making him affordable and attainable for Liverpool.
The former Lyon defender is a class act but faces a challenge for his place from new signing Yerry Mina, with Gerard Pique a mainstay of the team.
The Independent this week linked Barcelona with a move for Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, a transfer which would put Umtiti’s place under further pressure.

Liverpool would be better off moving for Umtiti at a very reasonable price compared to getting into a bidding war for Alderweireld themselves.
Raiding Barcelona would also be a major statement from Liverpool too, who have lost their star players in the other direction in recent years, most recently Coutinho in January.
A slice of revenge would make this deal all the more sweeter.
