Tottenham Hotspur took some young players on tour to the United States but the 18-year-old was not among them

When Tottenham Hotspur announced their touring squad for the trip to the United States there were some notable exclusions, with Marcus Edwards, Shayon Harrison and Kazaiah Sterling all missing. However there is another Spurs player who can feel very unlucky to have been omitted in the form of Samuel Shashoua.

With Harrison likely to head out on loan again and Edwards rested after his exploits for England’s under-19s this summer, only Sterling of the trio listed above can wonder what he has done to miss out on the senior trip.

But the same can be said of Shashoua, who is one of Tottenham’s most exciting teenage talents and who was named in the match day squad for the Premier League clash with Leicester City last season.

Shashoua has scored 13 goals and provided seven assists in just 26 appearances for Tottenham’s under-18s, and while he is still getting used to the under-23s he should perhaps have joined the likes of Tashan Oakley-Boothe and Anthony Georgiou in training with the first-team this month.

His time should come in due course, but while there are reasons for some of the questionable selections, the same cannot be said for Shashoua.

Tottenham are not exactly flush with wide options right now and the teenager could have shone as some of his fellow teenagers have against Roma and Paris Saint-Germain.

Instead he is playing under-23 friendlies and it could be a while longer before he gets that call from Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino for another chance.
