Leeds United’s Samu Saiz was the subject of reported interest during the summer.
Samu Saiz has suggested to a press conference, quoted by Leeds Live, that Leeds United fans made him want to stay at Elland Road.
The Spaniard took the Championship by storm for large parts of last season following a £3 million move from Huesca [Yorkshire Evening Post].
According to Fichajes, Valencia and Getafe both failed with bids to bring him back to Spain this past summer.
The 27-year-old has been brilliant again this season and has reinforced his status as a firm fan favourite, among supporters whom he suggests played a big role in his decision to stay in West Yorkshire.
When asked via Leeds Live if he ever considered leaving, Saiz said: “Every year you have good moments and bad moments, but at the end of the day, when you play at Elland Road and you see all the fans supporting you, it gives you the strength to keep working and do better things.
“I went to other stadiums, in the Premier League, and with big teams, I saw big stadiums and these big clubs don’t have the fans we have.”
Leeds have been brilliant this season as Marcelo Bielsa’s side sit third in the Championship, two points adrift of the summit.
But you get the impression that their promotion bid hinges on whether they can keep the likes of Saiz fit all season long.
He’s a fantastic player and although he is yet to score in 12 Championship games, it isn’t a fair reflection of his importance to the Whites.
