Samu Saiz of Leeds United(C) celebrates his sides second goal with team mates during the Sky Bet Championship match between Bristol City and Leeds United at Ashton Gate on October 21, 2017...

Samu Saiz has spent the last fortnight in the doghouse after being sent off for spitting against Newport County.

He is currently serving a six game ban and will not be eligible to feature for another month.

Leeds lost the first game in his absence last week against Ipswich and Saiz has some clear making up to do.

And now he has made a significant step to do so.

Samu Saiz of Leeds United scores his sides first goal during the Sky Bet Championship match between Bristol City and Leeds United at Ashton Gate on October 21, 2017 in Bristol, England.

Leeds United’s official website reported yesterday that Saiz has contributed the final £25,000 to help young cancer sufferer Toby Nye reach the £200,000 mark he needs for life changing treatment.

It was hugely generous from the Spaniard and last night he sent a simple message embracing the club’s community spirit.

Saiz may not be able to contribute on the pitch due to his own ill-judged actions, but at least he is showing contrition off it and attempting to make good.

Supporters reacted to Saiz’s message, praising his donation and showing that the negative feeling towards him has softened considerably.
