Leeds United face Spanish side Girona in a pre-season friendly this weekend.

One of the players they could come up against is former Whites star Samu Saiz.

Saiz clinched a transfer to Girona at the weekend, two years after signing for Leeds.

His Leeds career ended very unsatisfactorily, leaving midway through last season for Getafe, and when he did leave, it was not for the fee the club had hoped for.

Nonetheless, Saiz can still do Leeds a favour this weekend, if he plays.

Saiz can do so by playing his best football and carving Leeds’ defence apart.

Leeds United's Samu Saiz holds off the challenge from Nottingham Forest's Jack Colback at Elland Road on October 27, 2018 in Leeds, England.

In doing so, he will highlight two areas which need addressing.

Leeds’ backline is already a little suspect, with Pontus Jansson not yet replaced.

Saiz has not really been replaced in attack either.

If the Spaniard causes havoc against Leeds, manager Marcelo Bielsa might just be pushed into finally addressing these problem areas.

Short term pain for Leeds for long term gain.
