Sampdoria defender Bartosz Bereszynski has revealed to Sport.pl that he could have joined Aston Villa in January 2017.

Bereszynski joined Italian club Sampdoria from Polish side Legia Warsaw in January 2017 for a transfer fee reported by L’Equipe to be worth €2 million (£1.79m).

The 26-year-old right-back has revealed that he had the option to move to Villa when he was leaving Legia.

The Poland international defender is also happy with his eventual choice, Sampdoria.

Bereszynski told Sport.pl: “Going to Sampdoria was the best possible choice. I am happy because it was also a fully conscious choice.

“At the beginning of January 2017 when I left Legia, I could have gone to another club, even Aston Villa. I chose Sampdoria, and as a defender I could not get any better.”

Good defender

Bereszynski is a very good right-back, and the Poland international defender would have been a good signing for Villa back in January 2017.

The former Lech Poznan star has established himself as an important player for Sampdoria since his move in January 2017.

During the second half of the 2016-17 campaign, the right-back made 11 starts and two substitute appearances in Serie A for Sampdoria, according to WhoScored.

In 2017-18, Bereszynski made 28 starts and three substitute appearances in Serie A for I Blucerchiati, according to WhoScored.
