Sammy Ameobi has been discussing the similarities between himself and his brother Shola, but insists that he is not lazy, speaking to the Bolton News.
The 24-year-old is currently on loan at League One side Bolton Wanderers, but has struggled to make an impact at the club, while his parent club thrive in the Championship. There has been criticism of Ameobi’s work rate, but the winger insists he is not lazy.

“I’m a bit like Shola, quite a lackadaisical style, and people assume that’s laziness but it’s just the way I carry myself,” Ameobi told the Bolton News.
“I am trying to work on it. I’m trying to look more enthusiastic, if that’s possible.”
Older brother Shola Ameobi is a cult hero on Tyneside for his career in black and white, with his reputation always enhanced by the goals he scored against rivals Sunderland, with fans dubbing him the ‘Mackem Slayer’ for his efforts in Tyne-Wear derbies.
Sammy Ameobi does not have the same status as his brother does at Newcastle, with what looked like a promising youngster turning into someone that is just Shola’s brother.

Shola was often branded lazy at Newcastle for his lack of movement and chilled out approach to playing football, but the Nigeria international would crop up with moments of brilliance that would capture Geordie hearts.
The same cannot be said for Sammy, who has never had any great moments while playing for Newcastle, other than inspiring a pitch invasion at Darlington during pre-season in 2011.
The name Ameobi is synonymous in the North East, but it is always preceded by Shola, not Sammy.
