Arsenal fan and big-mouth Piers Morgan should be dusting off his chequebook after Manchester City’s win last night.
When Manchester City lost to Arsenal at the start of last month, Samir Nasri took a lot of stick from fans of his former club.
The main reason is that Gunners fans saw him as a money-chaser, dubbing him Na$ri, while the Frenchman insisted he had left to win trophies.
Angered at the flak coming his way on his Twitter, he responded; “I’m aware what I said about titles i’m sure i will lift a trophy with Man City before AFC.”
The abrasive and agitator of many a professional footballer, Piers Morgan, jumped in on him at this claim, offering him to make a bet and put his money where his mouth was.
The terms of the bet were that Nasri would pay out £10,000 to charity if Arsenal won a trophy before City and vice versa.
We doubt even Nasri expected to be taking Mr Morgan’s money so soon, with City completing a remarkable turnaround to sit top of the league table one month on with two games to go.
Of course a priority for the Frenchman will be actually collecting a Premier League winners medal, but the midfielder has taken so much flak since leaving Arsenal, that such a public ‘victory’ will be every bit as satisfactory.
Nasri himself had a chance to put City’s result beyond doubt last night, instead dallying on the ball and taking an extra touch when he should have made in 2-0, but in the end it mattered little.
While he has had his contribution to City’s title charge questioned by some Arsenal fans, after failing to have an impact in games against them, he has actually been more productive at the Etihad.
He has scored less goals, but assisted more, being involved in 14 goals for City compared to 10 for Arsenal last year.
A medal and taking £10,000 from his biggest public detractor will be the icing on the cake.
