Sami Hyypia posted on his Instagram story that there were so many goals during Liverpool’s 5-0 thrashing of Manchester United that they ‘need umbrellas’.

The former Reds defender posted an image of him, sitting with a friend, holding umbrellas, with the caption:

“Its falling so many goals at @LiverpoolFC v Man United. Need umbrellas. Mo Salah on fire.”

It was an afternoon to forget for those associated with Manchester United, and one to safeguard in the memory bank if you don Liverpool colours.

Not only did Liverpool thrash their bitter rivals, but they well and truly battered them in their own back yard.

Who else was it going to be? But Salah hitting a hat-trick and punishing a weak, toothless and error-prone Man United defence.

Hyypia was certainly enjoying proceedings from the comfort of his own home, as he posted this message mocking Manchester United and praising hat-trick hero, Salah.

This is a serious statement of intent from Liverpool that they want their Premier League crown back.

Many within Anfield will feel they weren’t able to have a real crack at defending their crown last season, because of the injuries they suffered.

But, during this campaign, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk back in action, this is a Merseyside steam train that, not many, apart from Manchester City, will be able to stop.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if it’s the duo, come the end of the season, that are scrapping it out right until the end for the title.
