Sam Winnall has stated on Instagram that he is looking forward to next season with Sheffield Wednesday after his loan spell at Derby County.

The 27-year-old striker spent the 2017-18 campaign on loan at Derby from Championship rivals Wednesday.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers prospect made just six starts and only 11 substitute appearances in the Championship for the Rams last season, scoring six goals and providing one assist in the process.

Winnall has taken to Instagram to send a heartfelt message to Derby and has also stated his intention to help Wednesday in the Championship next season.

So today marks my last day at Derby, I’ve loved my time here and have so many people to thank for it. From the players, to the coaching staff, to the media guys, to the kitchen staff and everybody else I worked with were amazing and made me feel so welcome even as a loan player so I can’t thank you enough. I must add a big thank you to all the medical staff who have been amazing with me throughout my rehab, you not only helped me recover and given me the best possible treatment but helped me keep my head on the down days! I will be forever grateful! Maybe our paths with cross again in the future but for now it’s goodbye and all the best Although my focus is still to get myself back fit and on the pitch, I’m really looking forward to a fresh start back at Hillsborough and fully focused on helping the club be successful

Future at Sheffield Wednesday?

Given that Wednesday allowed Winnall to join Derby on loan last season, it does not seem very likely that they will make him an important part of the team next season.

Maybe it would be best for the 27-year-old to find a new club, as he is good enough to play for a promotion-chasing team in the Championship and can score quite a few goals.
