Coco Gauff will look to defend her WTA Finals title when the 2025 tournament begins on November 1.

Gauff defeated Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula and Aryna Sabalenka on her way to the final in 2024, before beating China’s Qinwen Zheng 3-6, 6-4, 7-6.

Returning this year as defending champion, she’ll be joined by a strong field including Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula, Amanda Anisimova, Madison Keys, Jasmine Paolini and Elena Rybakina.

Gauff will head into the event with confidence following her recent Wuhan Open win but there’s growing support for another American ahead of this year’s edition.

Amanda Anisimova backed by Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson for 2025 WTA Finals title

Speaking on the Nothing Major podcast, former world number 11 Sam Querrey started the conversation by picking Amanda Anisimova as his favourite to win the WTA Finals.

Former world number 21 Steve Johnson backed up Querrey’s pick, also choosing Anisimova to claim her first WTA Finals title. Querrey went even further, predicting that Anisimova will reach world number one status in 2026.

Anisimova has certainly made a case for herself this year. She’s picked up two WTA 1000 titles and made it to the finals at both Wimbledon and the US Open.

However, not everyone on the panel was convinced. Both Jack Sock and John Isner had different ideas about who might come out on top.

Sock is backing Jasmine Paolini to win her first title at this event, while Isner is sticking with Coco Gauff, tipping her to go back-to-back after last year’s success.

A closer look at the WTA Finals format

The 2025 edition of the WTA Finals will take place from November 1st through to November 8th. Each player faces three matches within their group, with 200 WTA points awarded for every win during the round-robin stage.

The top two players from each group then advance to the semi-finals, with another 400 points available for a win at that stage.

The eventual champion earns an additional 500 points, bringing the maximum total available to a player up to 1,500. However, not every champion claims every possible point along the way.

In last year’s finals, Gauff won two out of her three round-robin matches before going on to win both her semi-final and final appearances. That run earned her a total of 1,300 points for the tournament.
