Sam Johnstone has surely made himself Aston Villa’s top target for the summer, with his display against Cardiff City last night.

Johnstone spoke before the game about his desire to be settled, and suggested that a permanent move to Villa would appeal, if they are promoted.

Steve Bruce has already stated that Villa will attempt to bring in Johnstone at the end of the season, and the goalkeeper proved just how crucial he is to the claret and blues last night.

Johnstone made a series of brilliant saves, as Villa won 1-0 against Cardiff City, to keep their slim hopes of automatic promotion alive.

The Manchester United loanee made one particularly memorable stop, where he kept Glenn Whelan from scoring an own-goal before getting up to block a fierce drive from a Cardiff attacker.

Johnstone has been in excellent form for Villa this term, but last night’s display was arguably his finest for Bruce’s side.

And if he wasn’t already Villa’s top target for the summer, then the goalkeeper surely will be now.
