Leeds United youngster Sam Dalby admitted he was surprised a late loan move to Morecambe came about.

He told his new loan side’s website that he was taken aback on deadline day when the switch went through.

Dalby said: “The move was a bit of a surprise really but a good one. I was just having my dinner at about 6pm on deadline day and got a call from my agent to tell me I was going to Morecambe on loan.”

Dalby’s path to first team football was blocked at Leeds, despite promising performances for the under-23s.

He was about sixth or seventh in the pecking order for the first team and a loan made sense.

So far his move to Morecambe is off to a slow start.

Dalby has played just one minute so far.

. Morecambe's manager Jim Bentley during the Sky Bet League 2 match between Northampton Town and Morecambe at the PTS Academy Stadium, Northampton on Saturday 26th January 2019.

Last night he was an unused substitute as Morecambe took on Paul Scholes’ Oldham Athletic.

Morecambe won the game 2-1, with Dalby watching on from the bench.

He came on to make his debut on February 9 in a 3-2 defeat to Bury, as an 89th minute introduction.

Since then Dalby has been an unused option from the bench in two consecutive games.

There is plenty of time for Dalby to win over manager Jim Bentley.

When he does get a chance, the former Leyton Orient striker will have the make it count.
