Sam Byram: Why Redfearn brought Luke Murphy in from the cold

Leeds United defender Sam Byram has explained why he feels Neil Redfearn gave his teammate Luke Murphy a chance last season.

Leeds United defender Sam Byram told LUTV why he feels Neil Redfearn decided to bring Luke Murphy in from the col at the club.

Byram has commented on the struggles Murphy faced at times last season, before Redfearn offered him a chance he took to become an important part of the middle of the team over the second half of the campaign.

“He’s not just been sort of out of the team and put on the bench – He was basically out of it completely,” said Byram.

“Redders came in and gave him the chance – he saw how hard he was working in training and how much he wanted to play.”

Redfearn is an honest manager and whatever happens in terms of his future with the club, he will always give a player a chance if he shows that he’s prepared to work for it.

The stats for last season show that Murphy was competitive against his key teammates in a number of areas since January 1 this year, with a particular ability to tackle well and break up the play effectively.
