West Ham United defender Sam Byram is out for the rest of the season.
West Ham United were thumped 4-1 by Swansea City on Saturday afternoon, and their woes have deepened with injury news this week.
The Hammers are struggling on the road having lost 3-1 at Brighton, 4-1 at Liverpool and now 4-1 at Swansea, as David Moyes’ side have been dragged back into the relegation battle.
Now, just days after selling Jose Fonte to Dalian Yifang, West Ham have learned that defender Winston Reid and full back Sam Byram are both out for the rest of the season with injuries.
Both players will now miss a crucial spell of the season, and in truth, it may just spell the end of the line for right back Byram, whose injury problems have been just a part of his struggles in East London.
A £3.7million signing from Leeds in January 2016 (The Independent), Byram was lured to West Ham by former boss Sam Byram, with the idea of him becoming the Hammers’ first-choice right back – but it hasn’t panned out that way.
Byram has played just 27 league games for West Ham and has failed to impress fans, whilst Football.London claim that West Ham now want to sign Fulham’s Ryan Fredericks as cover for Pablo Zabaleta.
That would push Byram to third-choice in the right back pecking order, and another injury sums up the misery Byram has been suffering, and with form, injuries and potentially increased competition, there is a strong possibility that Byram has already played his final game for West Ham.
In fact, West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to suggest that time may be up for Byram at the London Stadium, suggesting that the 24-year-old should be replaced at the end of the season as he simply isn’t good enough or reliable enough to be called upon moving forward.
